Dental implant restoration is an excellent option for replacing missing teeth. Whether you are missing one tooth or multiple teeth, implant restoration may be an option for you. Call and schedule a consultation with Dr. Chung to discuss the procedure and find out if you are a good candidate for dental implant restoration.

Dental implants are a permanent solution to the problem of missing teeth. Because the implant is a titanium post that is fused directly to your jaw, you never have to worry about slipping and sliding like you do with dentures or partials. If you have several missing teeth, you also have the option of having a bridge that is held in place with dental implants, which prevents the need to alter adjacent, otherwise healthy teeth.

Titanium is a biocompatible metal. This means that once placed, the implant will not react or cause any problems with your own natural tissue, and you don’t have to worry about your body rejecting the implant. The strength of the titanium implant also helps to assure that your restoration will be long-lasting and durable; in fact, your dental implant is likely to last you for the rest of your life.

If you and Dr. Chung agree that dental implants are a good choice for you, you will be referred to an oral surgeon who will place the implant in your jaw. Over the next several weeks, your implant will actually integrate into your bone and essentially become a part of your jaw. Once your jaw and tissue have healed, we will fit you for the crown that attaches to the implant.

When you return to our office, we will check the placement of the implant and then take impressions and measurements to send to the dental lab that will be creating your restoration. We will work with you to make sure that the crown they create looks identical to your own natural teeth in every aspect, from shape to color.

Once the crown is complete, we will fit it to the titanium post and check the fit and appearance to make sure that everything is perfect and that you are happy. At that point, you will be good to go!

Caring for Your Dental Implants

man smiling up at dentist | Dental Implants in Poway CA | AllDent Dental CenterOne of the features of dental implants that most people really appreciate (and that often makes them preferable to dentures) is that once placed, dental implants don’t require any special care other than the regular brushing and flossing routine that we recommend for all our patients. There’s no need to buy special brushes, pastes, adhesives and other care products that are a necessity for people with dentures.

We do recommend that you continue to come to our office for your usual twice yearly dental examinations and cleanings. Not only are these necessary for keeping your teeth and gums in great shape, they also give us a chance to check on your implant and make sure that everything is going well. If at any time you have any concerns about your implant or it doesn’t feel like it’s fitting quite right, please give our office a call so we can take a look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental Implants in Poway, CA

Most healthy adults are good candidates for dental implants. When you come in for your consultation and examination, Dr. Tae Chung will be especially interested in the condition of the tissue and bone in your jaw where your implant will be placed. A good quantity of healthy bone is important for proper placement of the implant and will help us to avoid the need for other procedures such as tissue and bone grafts. X-rays will help us determine the condition of your jaw bone and give us a better idea as to whether implants are right for you.

Price, Permanence, and Comfort for Dental Implants and Dentures

This will depend greatly on a number of factors. Most insurance companies will pay for dentures but may not fully cover dental implants. Dental implants do cost more than dentures, and for some people, this is an important consideration. Dental implants require an oral surgeon to place the titanium post while dentures are completely non-invasive. However, dental implants are a permanent solution that will blend right in with your own natural teeth while dentures and partials are meant to be removed for cleaning and soaking. Dentures will require adjustments to keep them fitting properly as the shape of your mouth changes over time and have been known to slip at the wrong moment. You may also find that dentures will limit the types of foods you can enjoy.
